Requirements to Obtaining your License

  • Must provide documentation of eight years of experience.
  • Experience must be obtained during a time frame no less than four (4) years.
  • Up to 2 years (4,000 hours) credit may be given for electrical education courses.

Exam Details

  • 100 questions and a 5 hour time limit (Master)
  • 80 questions and a 4 hour time limit (Journeyman)
  • $100 exam fee
  • 75% is required to pass for Master, 70% for Journeyman
  • Topics include: Service Transformers and Equipment, Wiring Methods and Installation, Cabinets, Panel boards, Switchboards and Boxes, Conductors, Control Devices, Motors and Generators, Utilization Equipment and Devices, Special Occupancies, Equipment and Systems, General Requirements and Provisions
  • Exam given by: ICC - Pearson Vue - 1-877-234-6082

Continuing Education

16 hours of continuing education are required per renewal.

Applying to Get Your License

The initial application fee is $200, with an annual renewal fee of $100. Contractor fees are $400 for application and $400 for the annual renewal.

Reciprocity Agreement

Journeyman: The state of Wyoming has a reciprocity agreement for the Journeyman Electrician license with the following states: Utah, Montana, Alaska, Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and New Hampshire.

Master: Idaho, South Dakota, and Utah.
