About This License

  • Master Plumbing License covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply and storm drainage.
  • Journeyman Plumbing license covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply, and storm drainage while under the supervision of a Master Plumber.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

  • Master plumbers must have a journeyman’s license for 12 months prior and pass an examination.
  • Journeyman plumbers must complete and apprenticeship program.

Applying For Your License

To apply for a license, please contact the Vermont Department of Public Safety at 1-802-479-7564.

  • Master license fee is $120
  • Journeyman license fee is $90

Exam Details

  • After you have been approved to take the exam, contact ICC at 1-802-479-7561.
  • The master exam has 105 questions and a time limit of 4 hours.
  • The journeyman exam has 75 questions and a time limit of 3 hours.
  • Topics on both examinations include plumbing fixtures, plumbing fundamentals, traps, cleanouts, drainage, vents, water distribution, plan and analysis, and local amendments.

Exam Review Education

Continuing Education

8 hours of continuing education are required per renewal. 2 of the hours must include code review.
