This license covers the construction, remodeling, repair, or improvement of one or two family residences not exceeding two stories in height.

In lieu of passing the residential building trade exam, a contractor may take an approved course from a state community college.

About The Course

License Information and Requirements

Contractors may apply for a Limited License with a BC-A/r classification, which restricts residential contractors to building in the amount of *$125,000 or less. In lieu of the exams, they may attend a course at a community college.

All other application requirements must be fulfilled, including a personal board interview. The BC-A/r licensee cannot exceed their monetary limit; there is not a 10% tolerance. In addition, they cannot joint venture with another licensed contractor to combine monetary limits. The contractor's monetary limit must cover the total project, which includes: land, labor, materials and equipment, as well as profit.

About This License

The Masonry Contractor classification covers the installation, with or without the use of mortar or adhesives, of the following:

  • (i) brick, concrete block, gypsum partition tile, pumice block, or other lightweight and facsimile units and products common to the masonry industry;
  • (ii) installation of fire clay products and refractory construction; and
  • (iii) installation of rough cut and dressed stone, marble panels and slate units, and installation of structural glazed tile or block, glass brick or block, and solar screen tile or block.

This license is divided into three types: Limited, Intermediate, and Unlimited.

  • The Limited License has a financial limit per project of up to $500,000. In order to qualify, the applicant must be financially stable and show that they exceed their total liabilities by $17,000.
  • The Intermediate License has a financial limit of up to $1,000,000 per project. In order to qualify, the applicant must be financially stable and show that they exceed their total liabilities by $75,000.
  • The Unlimited License is not restricted to the value of the project. In order to qualify the applicant must be financially stable and show that they exceed their total liabilities by $150,000.

To become a licensed Commercial or Residential Insulation Contractor in the state of Arizona, you are required to pass an open-book exam.     This classification includes the installation, alteration, and repair of steam and hot water systems and boilers, including chimney connections, flues, refractories, burners, piping, fittings, valves, thermal insulation, and accessories; fuel and water lines from the source of supply to boilers; process and specialty piping and related equipment; pneumatic and electrical controls. If necessary, a new circuit may be added to the existing service panel or sub-panel. Excluded is the installation of a new service panel or subpanel.
