About This License

The South General Roofing license covers the installation and repair of roofs and roof decking on commercial, industrial, and institutional structures requiring materials that form a water-tight and weather-resistant surface. This license is limited to shingles, clay and concrete tile, slate, wood-shake roofing, metal roofing, and asphalt-rolled roofing.

Requirements to Obtaining your License

  • Group 1 – Allows for jobs of $50,000 or less, applicants must showing a net worth of at least $10,000.
  • Group 2 – Allows for jobs of $200,000 or less, applicants must show a net worth of at least $40,000.
  • Group 3 – Allows for jobs of $500,000 or less, applicants must submit show a net worth of at least $100,000.
  • Group 4 – Allows for jobs of $1,500,000 or less, applicants must show a net worth of at least $175,000.
  • Group 5 – There are no financial limits on the size of job allowed, applicants must submit show a net worth of at least $250,000.
  • Please note that the Business Management and Law Exam must be passed in addition to the trade exam.
  • 2 years of experience is required.

Exam Review, Training, Education

We offer review for the South Carolina Roofing Contractor Exam through a home study/ online course format. The program takes you through each one of the reference books that the exam is based on showing you exactly what to highlight. After your highlighting is completed with each book, you have the option take an online practice test to reinforce concepts presented. The program is narrated and animated. Exam Details

  • 50 questions and a time limit of 3 hours minutes.
  • A score of 70% is needed to pass.
  • $75 exam fee.
  • Topics include: Roofing - Substrate (5 Items), Roofing - Steep (27 Items) , Roofing - Repairs (9 Items), Roofing - Low Slope (3 Items), and Safety (6 Items).
