About this License

“Master Electrician” means and includes any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the business of or holding themselves out to the public as engaged in the business of, installing or repairing, or contracting to install or repair wires, conductors, and equipment used for the transmission or use of electric current.

“Journeyman Electrician” means a workman qualified and competent in the trade of electrician and who is employed by a registered and licensed “Master Electrician.”

“Apprentice Electrician” means a workman registered in an approved Apprentice Training Program.

Requirements to Obtaining your License

  • 3 letters of recommendation - Electrical and HVAC recommendation letters must be on letterhead and notarized that prove at least four (4) years of experience in the field for which you are applying
  • Notarized Criminal Record History form

Exam Review, Training, Education

The program takes you through each one of the reference books that the exam is based on showing you exactly what to highlight. After your highlighting is completed with each book, you have the option take an online practice test to reinforce concepts presented. Also, there is an extensive math and plans analysis portion. The program is narrated.

The following references are NOT allowed in the testing center:

Journeyman Exam

  • 80 questions
  • 3 hours
  • 70% required to pass
  • Topics include General Electrical Knowledge, Wiring and Protection, Wiring methods and materials, equipment, special occupancies, special equipment, special conditions, and communication systems
