About This License

This license covers the installation all types of insulation materials commonly used, including spray-on, roll/batt, blown or loose-fill, rigid-board or reflective, ventilation, and vapor barriers and retarders as well as others.

Requirements to Obtaining your License

  • Pre-approval from the state is required before testing.
  • Alabama Business and Law exam is also required.
  • Applicants must document at least 3 projects and 3 years of experience in the insulation trade.
  • A minimum net worth of $10,000. There are also working capital requirements. Bid limits depend on financial status

Exam Details

  • The Alabama Insulation exam consists of 50 questions and has a time limit of 120 minutes.
  • The examination is OPEN book.
  • A score of 70% is required to pass.

  • Topics include General Knowledge and Theory, Safety and Employee Protection, Insulation Applications, Plan Reading, Materials, Estimating, TakeOffs, Spray-On Application, Batt/Roll Insulation, Blown or Loose-Fill Insulation (Includes DensePacking), Rigid-Board and Reflective Insulation, Ventilation, and Vapor Barriers/Retarders.

Applying to Get Your License

$300 application fee plus a $100 fee that is donated to construction education.
